The Commitee 2015-16
Chair - Hansini Nish Sivaguru

I'm so honoured to be Chair of this wonderful society for 2015-16! My job is to ensure that this is another successful year filled with interesting and enjoyable events!

My interest in paediatrics has grown throughout my time in medical school and I am proud to say I helped found UCL Student Hospital Fun Team in 2012 and continue to be a commitee member. In addition to this, I studied the iBSc in Child Health and Paediatrics in my third year. I have fufilled various positions on the committee over the last three years and thus feel I have the knowledge and experience to help the society to continue to thrive!

Please do contact me if you have any ideas about events in the future!

Vice Chair - Karishma Desai

I am very excited to be the VP for this society! As everybody else on this committee has mentioned, Paediatrics has been and always will be a long-standing interest of mine. I studied the iBSc in Paediatrics and Child Health during my third year at medical school, as well as participating in the UCL Fun Team and Teddy Bear Clinic. During the summer of 2014, I volunteered in a children’s orphanage in Ghana with SKIP UCL. I have been involved in this sub-committee over the past couple of years and I can’t wait to get stuck in again this year!

Volunteer Coordinator - Katie Hodgkinson

Hi, I'm Katie, and I'm the volunteer coordinator for PaedsSoc this year! I'm really excited to combine my love of working with children and my habit to volunteer for just about everything into hopefully getting more people involved in our local community. I'm currently a Brownie and Guide leader as well as teaching child CPR, despite being an overgrown child myself. I look forward to volunteering with you this year!

Events and Publicity Coordinators

Anisha Tolat

I'm a fifth year medical student and I've always had a certain love for paediatrics! I am so happy and privileged to take on this exciting role. I hope to share this enthusiasm and inspire you in the future with the thrilling events that we run throughout the year! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, I am always happy to help. Here's to a great year!

Amani Patel

Hi, my name's Amani and I'm a third year medical student currently doing the iBSc Paediatrics and Child Health. I've been interested in pursuing a career in paediatrics for a while and after doing some related work experience I developed a stronger interest. I'm looking forward to helping organise and run events this year and I hope it helps others to develop an interest in paediatrics too.

Education Coordinators

Bethany Brockbank

My role is to bring you all as many exciting things to learn about paediatrics as possible, to help us enjoy and take as much as we can from this huge specialty. We'll be bringing you mock OSCEs and workshops, and if there's anything you'd like to see from us, just get in touch. Happy reading everyone!

Shefali Patel

Hi my name is Shefali and I am a 3rd year medical student. Having enjoyed working with such a lovely committee last year on events such as MedSoc Mondays and the MOSCEs, I thought I would continue helping out again this year. I’ll be starting the Paediatrics and Child Health BSc soon and continuing as a Teddybear Clinic project leader too. I’m really excited for the events we have planned and I hope people find them inspiring and enjoyable.

Years 4-6 Rep - Rowen Bell

Hi I'm Rowen and I'm really looking forward to being involved in the society for another year. As year 4-6 rep I'd love to hear about your experiences in paediatrics and anything you'd like from the society, particularly as our paediatric training takes place in year 5! I've had a long standing interest in paediatrics and during medical school have been able to get involved with the charity SKIP, allowing me to work with children in Ghana; have been involved in research projects in child development, and am beginning a project in paediatric oncology.

Treasurer - Katie Hart

I'm a Fifth Year Medical Student here at UCL. This year I have the pleasure of both completing my paediatrics rotation and of serving on this lovely committee. My role is mostly practical in supporting the running and costing of our events and activities. I will also be seeking out corporate sponsorship, hoping to drum up some exciting prizes and funding for our events. It's going to be a great year!

Years 1-3 Rep - Sophia Hashim

My name is Sophia Hashim and I am in my second year at UCL studying Medicine. Working with children has always been a passion of mine- the Paediatrics Society is a great way to get involved by volunteering for one of the student-led projects, such as the UCL Student Hospital Fun Team. My role in the society as Years 1-3 Representative is to spread the word of all the exciting events we have to offer and to work with my colleagues on the committee to make every event a success!
